Led by Ian Johnson of Interlace Commons, this 2.5-hour interactive class covers the full lifecycle of shiitake mushrooms and the practical skills needed to grow them successfully in Northern New England conditions. Participants will observe and practice inoculation techniques. You will leave with a hardwood mushroom inoculated log so you can begin cultivating shiitake mushrooms at home.
Date & Location: The workshop takes place on Plant Pick Up Day (Sat, May 2), 10am-12:30pm at the Orleans County Fairgrounds in Barton.
What you will learn: 1) How to select appropriate logs for mushroom cultivation, 2) How to inoculate logs using different spawn methods, 3) How to store and manage logs for moisture and productivity, and 4) Gain an understanding of fruiting timelines and harvesting approaches.
