(2-3’ bare root) Viburnum trilobum - 6-15’ tall, 8-10’ wide. This native shrub has white flat-topped flowers that bloom midsummer, and fruits that can persist through the winter. It is easy to grow with a moderate growth rate of up to 3 ft/year. Prefers moist soil and will do best in full sun. It is hardy once established. While not a true cranberry, the fruit is edible, similar to the low bush cranberry in appearance and taste. The fruits/drupes are best eaten cooked, and like cranberries, they are rich in vitamin C and so have a tart, acid taste (the taste is best after a frost and when picked slightly under-ripe). They are an excellent substitute for cranberries and are likewise used in preserves, jams/jellies, and sauces. The berries will also be enjoyed by the local turkey, grouse, and pheasant. Zones 2-7
