It has elliptical, fine-toothed leaves 2 to 5 inches long that turn rich red and orange in autumn. Chokeberries are edible and can be canned and make healthy fruit drinks. The plant holds its fruit into winter, which will be enjoyed by many birds such as cedar waxwings. Spreads readily by suckering. Prefers full sunlight, but is moderately tolerant of light shade.
