(3” pot) -Verbena hastata - Also called American vervain or swamp verbena, it is a herbaceous bush perennial. It produces blue to purple flowers. Grows to 3-5 feet tall; roots are mat-forming. Blue Vervain likes moist, poorly drained rich soil, and does well in clay soils with compost, otherwise it does fine in standard garden soil, wetland soils, muddy streambanks, and ditches. Plant 2 feet apart. It’s a prolific self-seeder. It’s beneficial to bees, and beetles are attracted to it. Traditional use: Nervine tonic and digestive stimulant, also used to sweat out a fever, for treating colds and flu.
