(2-3’ bare root) Larix laricina - 40-80’ tall, 15-30’ spread. Also known as the tamarack, larch is a fast-growing deciduous evergreen. The wood is good for firewood. It is also grown as an ornamental tree in gardens and is a favorite tree for bonsai. Needles turn yellow before dropping. Grouse will eat the buds and seeds. Grows best in most but well drained soils, including clay and limestone. Shade and cold tolerant. Zones 2-5
